I got lots of hard drive problems and Odor Eaters socks for this Christmas, but we are back online!
I'll have to recompile the maps but the next version of TSoA should be ready soon.
We need servers running this Quake TC! Any volunteers would be appreciated.

Interested in helping us port The Sword of Ares to Quake 2? The main problem will be converting the DLL which I don't have the time to do right now, so if you are a competent C programmer interested in working on a shareware TC for Quake 2, e-mail me.
This is a site where you can place your requests for models. I am going to be checking this site frequently, so if you'd like me to take a shot at modelling for your game, this is your best bet.
Quake II
Did you know you can add new player skins and models and Quake II will detect them automatically?
For instance, If I want to make a new skin for the female player, I can copy one of the female player skins and portraits, rename them, repaint the new skins and when I run Quake I will be able to select the new skin and portrait from the multiplayer setup menu.
OpenQuake is a group dedicated to providing you with the information you need to create mods and tools for Quake II. Right now we are documenting the entire source code to the Quake II game DLL (the modifiable part of Quake II)
We have been working on Squawk with the tentative idea of
making it into a Quake 2 TC. We want to get the design
document done before doing serious work though.
Version 10 will be available early next week.
Zancrus has made some new monsters for version 10 to replace some of our .. um ... lamer monsters (we will leave in the Quake C and models for the old monsters so you can still use them in your own levels)
I have also added options to make bodies non-solid and to disable "juggling" enemies with powerful weapons.
Here is the CyberDawn models Pak that you can use with TSoA or any other modified Quake game. These are the re-skinned Quake models we originally released with the "CyberDawn" Quake TC.
I changed all of the links to the downloadable files on this website to link to the "Planet Quake Download Center" which will list all of the mirror sites for the file, so you can pick the best download site for your area. Let me know if you have any trouble.
New developer kits for The Sword of Ares - QuArK and Regular version.
We need a better way for TSoA developers to communicate - possibly an automated mailing list or www messageboard. I have no experience setting up these sorts of things. If you are interested in helping, if you have a suggestion, or if you would like to be on TSoA mailing list, let me know.
New model for the Free Models Project
Chris Shelton donated this model as an example of how NOT to make
a model, but it is still pretty good. The model and
accompanying text file should be pretty helpful to modelers.
Some cool Quake things to look for after playing the TSoA shareware:
Target Quake - side-view Quake - hilarious and cool (like a
slightly used Bill Gates)
YPOD - DooM + Quake only better
The Casandra Calamity (called mexx10.zip) - just plain cool
QuArK version 4.05 has been out for a while. There are so many great new features in the recent versions of QuArK I can't even begin to describe them here.
I am thinking of converting Quake completely to a 256 color grayscale. This is a no-brainer project but it can get a little tedious so e-mail me if you are interested in helping.
Here it is finally - The shareware levels of first mission of The Sword of Ares. id Software has delayed looking at it for another week so we can't charge money for the registered levels yet. Click HERE for more information about The Sword of Ares.
Screenshot of Quake with a 256 color greyscale palette (in the
left map the whole map is textured a flat gray) Click on
the left screenshot or HERE for a full
size animated GIF slideshow of the map. As you can see, you
get much smoother shading this way - an effect you can't get with
noiseless textures in regular Quake.
The screenshot on the right is the same map but with a noisy texture wich reduces the stairstep effect of the shading. I recommend viewing at these images in 24 bit color since 16 bit color doesn't show as many shades of gray.
