Wanted Models - Kalidom Quake 1 movie (09:30 PST)
Would you like to get involved in a machinima project?
I have added this new request to the Wanted Models Page:
"Accura (ICQ #78066953), the director and producer of Heroes of the Kalidom: Epiphany movie for Quake 1 desperately needs modeller(s)"

Wanted Models - Tuxfleet GPL space shooter (09:30 PST)
Or would you rather make cool or wacky space fighters?
Here's another request for the Wanted Models Page:
"TuxFleet, a free GPLd Space Fight Sim is searching for 3D artists to create 3D models of starships (any kind). Any theme is wanted, especially ships created from your own fantasy, starships known from tv/movies could also be created. See TuxFleet - Help Wanted for details."

Free Space Ships for Jedi Knight level editors (09:45 PST)
Alex from the Tuxfleet project also sent me a link to Sienar Fleet Systems. They've got dozens of ships in Jedi Knight 3DO format.

The latest Hack and Slash TC source includes a fix for monster respawning, numbers that indicate how much lasting and stun damage you take, and you can now get back up after being knocked out by stun damage

Hack and Slash - Experimental Version (22:15 PST)
Check out the latest Hack and Slash TC source code update (no compiled version this time). We've started some major changes including more use of the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System, and smoother rotation for player-characters and NPCs. Singe's QTank QuakeC inspired the new algorithm used for tilting players on slopes. This makes all kinds of long tailed, wheeled, multi-legged player models look good even when the floor is sloped.

Open Quartz - Broken Links (10:45 PST)
I screwed up the links to the new Open Quartz start map in Wednesday's news. See the fixed version below:

New tools for map designers (17:45 PST)
Traditional Quake map design with convex brushes is usually not a practical way to create outdoor scenes. To simplify this process, I have developed two free GPL utilities that allow you to create terrain with other techniques.
mdl2map - create a model of the terrain out of triangles, export it to Quake .mdl format, then convert it into terrain brushes in Quake .map format.
raw2map - paint the terrain as a 256 color grayscale image, and convert it into Quake .map format terrain triangles and quads with this utility.

Open Quartz - new Start map (17:45 PST)
We released a new version of the GPL Start Map. This version includes deathmatch starts, weapons and a new outdoor area. The map has difficulty selection triggers, but it's really just a deathmatch map until someone contributes some single player levels for Open Quartz. Make sure you have the latest version of the Ammo boxes for the GPL Weapons which includes an important fix.

Hack and Slash - New Version (11:15 PST)
I have released a New Version of Hack and Slash: Y2K Apocalypse Edition. Most of the changes are subtle, but I did remove all of the special "inherited" keywords and added some new entities and feilds including custom light styles, duplicators, gravity, friction, and volume and attenuation for sounds.

Open Quartz - New QuakeC (14:30 PST)
Mapes sent me new QuakeC with appropriate item names and death messages for the GPL Weapon and GPL Item models. I have added this QuakeC to the Open Quartz Complete PAK file and Complete Source.
