Bestiary update (1:40 PST)
Well, I've updated our Squawk Bestiary to what we have so far. The "other animal" section on the bestiary actually has very important rules about Squawk that we've allways gone by but perhaps not publicly explained in great detail.

Wanted Model (16:50 PST)
Here's a strange request. Mrow is looking for a player model on a broomstick for the Quidditch Quake mod. See the Wanted Models Page for more information about this and other wanted models.

Reach and Stride Rules (14:04 PST)
We modified the reach and stride rules for race generation in Hack and Slash, and recalculated the PPV for the Squawk anthrosaurs reach and stride with the new rules.

H&S Equipment Rules (1:10 PST)
I've made some modifications to the "Creating Armor and Weapons" page in the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System. The biggest change has been modifying the rules to work with our new reach PPV system.

Replayability (23:00 PST)
Useful insights like "the most replayable games are also the smallest and cheapest to implement" can be found in Earnest Adam's second article on replayability at Gamasutra.

Revenge of the Turkey-saurus (22:30 PST)
Jurrassic Park III starts showing Wednesday, but if you're a dinosaur nut like me you may be more excited about the slightly less cliched When Dinosaurs Roamed America which airs on the Discovery Channel this Sunday. (Dinosaurs with feathers, now there's a surprise *cough*)

Race/Character reach/stride fix (23:50 PST)
If you've ever tried to use the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System to generate a new race or character with modified reach or stride, then you know how broken that part of the system has been. Until now! Just a few minutes ago The Serpent Lord and I finished implementing our new easier to use reach/stride PPV (Player Point Value) system into the rules.

Corel Linux dominates (16:50 PST)
When I installed Corel Linux, I didn't even know if my computer was even detecting it's hard drive in the bios. So I on a whim I tried installing Corel Linux. I put in the boot disk and CD, answered 4 easy questions and suddenly had a fully functional Linux Box. Since then we've even had success with our Quake C using Debian Linux tools on our Corel Linux box (Corel's Debian based.) It looks like we've found our Linux "distro" of choice.

Know anyone with some FTP space and bandwidth for a growing, community built library of free game models, textures and other files? Please keep sending in your offers or recommendations!

Mac Quake Utilities (21:45 PST)
I just noticed that PoX has released a set of eQuake utilities in Macintosh format, including Mac versions of our raw2map and tri2map terrain convertors.

Hack and Slash Quake-C (21:45 PST)
A new version of Hack and Slash is available through our SourceForge project. You can download the latest Hack and Slash Quake-C or check out the files with CVS if you want to follow the code as it develops.

The Hack and Slash Quake-C should compile and run now! See qc.txt for important compiling instructions. You'll need data from the Hack and Slash: Y2K Apocalypse Edition to run Hack and Slash. (You'll also need Open Quartz or registered Quake, and some Quake engine executable to play this)

WANTED: FTP Alternatives (23:30 PST)
We are looking for an alternative FTP site to File Planet (or "Vile Planet" as we sometimes call it) for Free Game Arts. The problem is not "waiting in line for guaranteed downloads", but having to have a user account or fill out online forms in order to download open source files. If you are able and willing to provide an FTP alternative to File Planet for Free Game Arts (or know someone who is,) please e-mail me right away. Thanks!

Half of HandS Tutorials done (1:30 PST)
Well, I'm half done with the Hack and Slash tutorials. Check them out on the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System web page if you've had some question about how the system works.

Hack and Slash Working? (22:10 PST)
The Hack and Slash Quake-C for the Hack and Slash game using variations of the Quake engine is starting to work again. I commented out everything but the bare essentials and then started enabling small portions. Turns out Quake Army Knife was allowing some code that doesn't compile with the new Open Quartz QCC utility (and maybe didn't work with the old QCC.)

Download this Pocket Quake conversion from the Hack and Slash Y2K Apocalypse Edition page.

Hack and Slash RPS update (23:30 PST)
As most Galbraith Games fans know, I've been working on clarifying the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System. The tutorials are far from done, but I've updated this site with my latest complete clarifications. Enjoy!
