Converted (17:30 PST)
We converted our Corel linux machine to Red Hat 7.2. It was as easy to install as Corel, and it works better. In fact we even have it dual booting with gates '98. We didn't use Red Hat before because it was not as good as it is now. But now Red Hat is king!

Squawk Character Wizard (17:15 PST)
The Squawk Character Generation Wizard has been updated. It is still incomplete, but it now seems to work on Netscape Communicator 4.73 in Corel Linux where it used to freeze up the browser. It could already be useful for generating basic dimensions for characters of various Squawk anthrosaur races quickly.

New Role-Playing System (11:15 PST)
We've just released a new version of the free Hack and Slash Role-Playing System. You can use this system to create your own Role-Playing Games - the kind that you play with paper and pencil and dice or video and computer games.

Hack and Slash has been free and "open source" since before open gaming was cool!

The new Hack and Slash Role-Playing System license gives you all the freedoms garaunteed by the old license, plus new options that should make it easy to use Hack and Slash or parts of it in your own RPGs and software. (Specifically you can now use Hack and Slash with the Lesser GPL or the Open Game License.)

Other enhancements to the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System include a simpler organization, shared combat system for hand to hand and missile weapons, new rules for archery and thrown weapons, and updated tutorials.

Red Hat Slaps Microsoft (21:40 PST)
Microsoft had a lesser-known class-action suit against it for using their operating system to sell other Microsoft software at inflated prices. In a settlement, Microsoft agreed to help further their market by giving their software to under funded schools. Red Hat responded by offering to do the same, asking Microsoft to instead donate hard ware instead of their same-old same-old lousy software.
