New H&S RPS Release! (11:55 PST)
I am all ready done with Version 2002.05.25 of the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System! The most important new feature is the lack of an OGL licensing option. Also, it has clarified Intelligence and Choking rules.

Mistaken (11:10 PST)
While I was working on the new version of the Hack and
Slash Role-Playing System, I noticed that the latest
version (2002.01.03) was not uploaded, so I uploaded
it. I also noticed that you CAN in fact download the
Zipped version of the H&S RPS from our H&S RPS page.

SL Axes OGL (17:30 PST)
Well, I got approval from The Serpent Lord to remove
the OGL license option from the Hack and Slash
Role-Playing System. We were hoping to influence the
direction of the D20 system for the better, but now
it's clear that the H&S RPS is just too open source to
be compatible with the pseudo-open source OGL D20
license.
The Serpent Lord went so far as to suggest that if
someone really wanted to use a level based 6 stat
system that was really open source, they would be
better off using a modification of our H&S RPS, which
is LGPL, and can handle any combination of abilities
the game developer wants to use.

Not Happening (20:25 PST)
Over the years we have had some requests to put the
Squawk RPG and/or the Hack and Slash Role-Playing
System into a Zip file for easier download. We've
entertained this possibility, and it's been on my
to-do list a long time. However, Squawk is
proprietary, and the people who wanted us to do this
usually wanted it for use in their own games. This is
usually a no-no with Squawk. As for the Hack and
Slash RPS, if you can see this news you can see it,
because the Hack and Slash RPS is all text!
I apologize if this is breaking any promises, but you
aren't going to see Squawk or the H&S RPS Zipped ready
for download anytime soon. Even if we did, you would
probably like the FilePlanet download problems less
than our web page download time anyhow.

Sign of Weakness (20:00 PST)
We will be seeing extra advertising windows popping up
soon on Game Spy sites universally. Some complain
that these advertisements don't make much money, and
everyone knows how much they inhibit the end users, so
why use them at all? Why not depend on revenue from
something else? Why not have a real product besides
advertising space? "Selling out" is really a sign of
materialistic desperation. In the case of a .com
corporation, it is a sign of weakness. Is the GameSpy
fleet sinking?

WANTED: (15:10 PST)
I've found everyone I've been looking for who was
mentioned in The Sword of Ares project documentation,
EXCEPT for "DavO" (David Ottvall) and "Griphis"
(GlennSaimaan.)(Both of these guys were involved as
textureartists.) If you know either of these people,
please e-mail me and let me know how to get ahold of
them, the sooner the better.

Crystal Space Linux Grant (20:10 PST)
I heard from Jorrit Tyberghein that
"Crystal Space has
received a $1000 USD Grant from
www.linuxfund.org."
This has many positive implications from my
perspective.

April Review (10:45 PST)
Last month we discovered "Jenkara", contacted numerous
individuals regarding the old Quake 1 TC "The Sword of
Ares", discovered what some of these people were up
to, updated the H&S docs (as usual,) and had some
trouble with our web page (largely because of the "big
GameSpy move.") Also, a new version of Crystal Space
was released.
